Welcome to the InternetCoast Virtual Job Fair. This is the first of its kind in South Florida and based on the current economic climate, we felt the timing was right. The InternetCoast is conducting a job fair to address the challenges of matching employers with potential employees in our region. This project got its start due to an article that ran in the South Florida Business Journal where they interviewed Mark Templeton, CEO of Citrix. In the article, Mark commented on the challenges Citrix has finding local IT talent. Soon after that article appeared, the InternetCoast Advisory Board had its meeting and this topic came up. There was agreement from some of the CEOs on the board that they too have positions and have challenges sourcing qualified candidates. The Board felt that the InternetCoast organization was in the unique position that they could assist and coordinate a virtual Job Fair prior to the end of the year so that the employers can get qualified candidates to begin 2009 with. Especially in the current economic environment the more we can do to match open positions with available talent, we felt this could be a valuable initiative.
Responses received from our newsletter blasts, we've had numerous inquiries from employers looking to hire various positions relating to IT. These positions include a wide range of technical, administrative, training, and sales positions as well as middle and senior management positions.

Virtual Job Fair Program
InternetCoast will allow IT Employers to post their job descriptions on the Florida 2.0 website with all of them completed by the end of the day on Friday December 5th, 2008. The Florida 2.0 site is a social networking site aimed at connecting, technology, health, government and education to increase collaboration. Potential employees will have until Friday, December 12th to post their resumes in response to specific openings on the site. Once that is completed, the employers can review the applicants, schedule interviews and move forward on their own. The only requirements we are asking for from the employers is that they provide on January 30th and again on February 27th the number of interviews conducted and the number of jobs offered and accepted.
To offset the expense of this effort, we will be charging applicants a $10 fee to submit their resumes. Listing companies will have a charge of $100 flat fee regardless of the number of jobs posted. For Recruiting and Personnel agencies, the charge will be $200 and we want only actual jobs listed on the site, not "placeholder" listings for general positions. This should eliminate spam Job Seekers and ensure that the companies posting have real positions available.
We will track the number of jobs posted, number of resume's submitted and once we are completed (end of February) and publish the results. At the end of the process, we will send out online surveys tracking how effective employers found this virtual job fair.
